Professional
Occupation Permits

If you have been offered a role with a Mauritian company, your employer sponsors your Occupation Permit. Two tracks are available based on seniority and salary.

Professional Occupation Permit

The Professional OP is employer-sponsored, covering mid to senior-level professionals relocating to a Mauritian company. The permit duration matches your employment contract, up to 10 years.

MUR 30,000/month

Professional OP

  • Minimum basic salary of MUR 30,000/month
  • Application submitted by the employer to the EDB
  • Duration follows employment contract (up to 10 years)
  • Renewable upon contract renewal
  • Short-term OP available for contracts up to 9 months
  • Permit fee: USD 1,000 on approval
Right to Invest: Holders of a Professional OP may invest in any business, provided they are not employed in — or drawing salary from — that business.

Young Professional Occupation Permit

The Young Professional OP is designed for recent graduates joining the Mauritian workforce. It offers a 3-year pathway to build a career on the island, with a lower salary threshold than the standard track.

MUR 25,000/month

Young Professional OP

  • For graduates from Mauritian or international institutions
  • Minimum salary of MUR 25,000/month
  • Equivalent to an undergraduate degree required
  • Valid for up to 3 years
  • Application submitted by the employer to the EDB
  • Permit fee: USD 1,000 on approval
Pathway to Permanent Residency: After 5 consecutive years on a Professional OP with a qualifying salary, you may apply for the 20-year Permanent Residence Permit.
